Abernathy Farm

Lessons

Lisa Abernathy will provide quality instruction for beginner through advanced riders in English and Western, or on Gaited Horses.

All lessons last approximately 1 hour. Private Lessons are $50 and Group Lessons are $40. Cash or Check is accepted. The first lesson is always private so that I can evaluate the riders skill and select an appropriate horse. Once the rider demonstrates proper balance, posture, and riding aides at the walk and trot they may move to a group lesson if available. A discount lesson package is also available! You can buy a package of 4 private lessons for only $180 or 4 group lessons for $140. That's up to a $60 savings!

Abernathy Farm's lessons are geared toward preparing you for horse ownership. We will teach you how to safely catch, groom, and tack up your horse, in addition to the fundamentals of riding. Abernathy Farm offers adult and youth lessons for ages age 5 and up. Private or Group lessons can also be scheduled. Group lessons consist of 2 to 4 riders. This is perfect for friends, siblings, or parents and children who want to learn how to ride together.

Lesson horses consist of seasoned show or trail horses. These horses are also available for Lease or Showing opportunities. We Do Not offer Public Trail rides. However, we will sometimes haul out to trails with our regular weekly lesson students.

Please note we do have a lesson cancellation policy: you must give Abernathy Farm 24 hours notice to cancel a lesson or the lesson must still be paid in full or will be deducted from your lesson package. No fee or penalty is incurred if a 24 hour notice or more is given.

English lessons are available in Hunt Seat, Dressage, or Jumping. All riders, English and Western, will learn posting, sitting, and 2-point riding positions.

Western lessons can be geared toward the casual rider who would like to learn to navigate trail obstacles and even how to cross deep water! Abernathy Farm also offers instruction for the serious competitor who would like to show Western Pleasure though Rodeo speed events.

We teach riders how to become horseman and work on all areas of horsemanship. You will learn parts of the saddle and the anatomy of the horse, and the day to day care of owning a horse. Students will learn every thing from fly spray to bathing to hoof care. The goal of this is to teach riders how to successfully care for their own horse and make sure they are receiving the best care.

We also offer ground work and round penning lessons. This is helpful for people who may already own their own horse, but need help building a respectful relationship with them. Abernathy Farm can help you retrain horses that are disrespectful, pushy on the ground, walk off while mounting, that are difficult to trailer load, clip, bathe, or de-worm. I will teach you how to effectively communicate with your horse in a consistent manner which will achieve results. I use principles from both Natural and Classical horsemanship.
