Abernathy Farm

Lisa Abernathy will provide quality instruction for beginner through advanced riders in English and Western, or on Gaited Horses.

All lessons last approximately 1 hour.  Cash or Check is accepted. The first lesson is always private so that I can evaluate the riders skill and select an appropriate horse. Once the rider demonstrates proper balance, posture, and riding aides at the walk and trot they may move to a group lesson if available. Discount lesson packages are also available!

Abernathy Farm's lessons are geared toward preparing you for horse ownership. We will teach you how to safely catch, groom, and tack up your horse, in addition to the fundamentals of riding and equitation. We focus on producing effective riders, who can accomplish more than just looking pretty in the saddle. We give you the skills and confidence to  maintain a great working relationship with your horse and keeping their respect so you don't have to fix bigger problems in the future.

Abernathy Farm offers adult and youth lessons for ages age 7 and up. Private or Group lessons can also be scheduled. Group lessons consist of 2 to 4 riders. This is perfect for friends, siblings, or parents and children who want to learn how to ride together.

We Do Not offer Public Trail rides.

Please note we do have a lesson cancellation policy: you must give Abernathy Farm 24 hours notice to cancel a lesson or the lesson must still be paid in full or will be deducted from your lesson package. No fee or penalty is incurred if a 24 hour notice or more is given.

English lessons are available in Hunter-Jumper or Dressage. All riders, English and Western, will learn posting, sitting, and 2-point riding positions.

The goal of this is to teach riders how to successfully care for their own horse and make sure they are receiving the best care.

We also offer ground work and round penning lessons. This is helpful for people who need help building a respectful relationship with horses. I will teach you how to effectively communicate with your horse in a consistent manner which will achieve results. I use principles from both Natural and Classical horsemanship.
